Pentecost & The Early Church
Jesus ascended, telling them to wait. 120 believers gathered. The Spirit arrived not as a quiet whisper, but as fire and wind, enabling them to speak in tongues understood by the international crowd in Jerusalem.
Peter, once fearful, now stands bold. He preaches Christ crucified and risen.
Result: 3,000 souls added in one day.
Miracles & Persecution
Peter heals a lame beggar. The man doesn't just walk; he leaps! This miracle sparks the first wave of persecution.
Threatened by the Sanhedrin to stop speaking, the church didn't pray for safety. They prayed for boldness.
Amidst unity, hypocrisy is judged instantly. Fear of the Lord falls on the church.
Stephen's Witness
Greek widows were being neglected. Seven deacons (including Stephen) were chosen to serve tables so apostles could focus on prayer.
Stephen gives a history lesson proving Israel always resisted the Holy Spirit. He sees the heavens open and Jesus standing at God's right hand.
Samaria & Damascus
Persecution didn't stop the church; it spread it like seed.
Breathing threats, Saul is blinded by light on the road to Damascus.
God chooses the greatest enemy to be the greatest missionary.
Peter & Cornelius
God tells Peter: "What God has made clean, do not call common."
Peter preaches at Cornelius' house. The Spirit falls on Gentiles before baptism. The Jewish believers are astounded.
Where they were first called "Christians".
1st Journey & Jerusalem Council
Paul & Barnabas
Pattern established: Synagogue first, then Gentiles.
"Unless you are circumcised... you cannot be saved."
The Verdict (Acts 15): We are saved by grace alone. Do not burden the Gentile believers with the Law.
2nd Journey
Lydia converted. Paul & Silas in prison. Earthquake at midnight. Jailer saved.
Paul engages philosophy. The "Unknown God".
Stays 1.5 years. Tentmaking with Aquila & Priscilla.
3rd Journey
Ephesus was a center of magic. Believers confessed their practices and burned their magic books (Value: 50,000 drachmas).
The gospel hurt the idol-making business. Demetrius starts a riot in the theater. The town clerk eventually quiets the mob.
"I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God." (Acts 20:27)
Jerusalem to Caesarea
Despite warnings, Paul goes to Jerusalem and is arrested in the Temple.
Shipwreck & Rome
A violent storm rages for 14 days. All hope is lost. Paul stands up:
Shipwrecked on Malta. Snake bite. Healing. God's protection is absolute.
Paul arrives in Rome under house arrest.
"Proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance."
